Maria Maderal joins our science department, and will be primarily teaching Chemistry. Ms. Maderal attended school in her native Philippines, where she has both her undergraduate degree and her master’s. “I am excited to teach at Hudson Catholic Regional High School because I am a devout Catholic and I would like to make a difference in the lives of the students especially in the areas of Chemistry, Materials Science, and STEM,” says Ms. Maderal. Ms. Maderal credits her mother for motivating her to become a teacher and you may be surprised to learn that she once designed clothes for a living, proving that arts and sciences can go together! Ms. Maderal is also a published author and is currently writing two more books, one Chemistry and the other STEM.
Christina Vyzas joins us as the new lead teacher for the Medical Arts program. Christina’s father, Vincent, is a member of the class of 81. Christina graduated from Wesleyan University where she has both her undergraduate and master’s degrees. Ms. Vyzas was inspired to become a teacher while studying for her master’s degree. “Although I was very nervous at the beginning (of the program), the students in my class were so supportive and open-minded. I learned a great deal from engaging in exciting discussion with the group of diverse-thinkers. I admired my professor, Professor Sonia Sultan, for creating a supportive, encouraging environment while challenging and maintaining high expectations for her students,” she says.
Lisetty Nigrinis joins Hudson Catholic in the foreign language department. A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson, Ms. Nigrinis received holds both bachelors and master’s degrees. Ms. Nigrinis has created global programs and served as a college advisor before coming to Hudson Catholic. She credits her first bilingual teacher for inspiring her to become a teacher.
Anthony Romano comes to Hudson Catholic from Marist where he was Dean of Students and a member of the religion department. At Hudson Catholic, Mr. Romano will teach religion to seniors. In his free time, Mr. Romano is an avid runner and has coached basketball at the NY Knicks summer camp. A Jersey City native, Mr. Romano graduated from St. Aloysius high school and then received his bachelor’s degree from New Jersey City University.
