Living in Larry's World

“EVERY DAY IN EVERY WAY-BETTER AND BETTER” John Lennon reworked the line and put it into one of his last songs along with this other gem. “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans”.

I would like to interest you in our plan, “SIP”- “Success Insurance Plan”.

Our insuring that for a long time to come, the school at 790 Bergen Ave. play’s the role it has always played in the lifeblood of Jersey City, Hudson County and our families. A place, for example, where after four years with the good Brothers out its doors come the Bravest and the Finest, thanks to the role it plays as an inner city school for working class kids to develop and succeed. A safe and secure school where they will be educated and challenged to eventually step up and out into the “Real World”; the Working World”.

Let’s face it we can say with great pride the oft heard nickname of Hudson Catholic, “Civil Service High”; sure does apply. I will bet you that on any given day if you randomly stop a Police Officer anywhere in Jersey City and just ask them this simple question, “Are you a Hudson Hawk?” You would be very surprised at how many times you will hear a laugh and a yes! or more likely a yea!, followed by  a smile and another laugh. It pretty much works the exact same way with our fearless Firemen as well.

In fact one day, as I was walking along Bergen Avenue, I stopped into the firehouse on Bergen and Duncan, “Engine 9”. It was like walking into an Alumni meeting, only with much better food. Hawks are everywhere, everywhere “WHERE IT COUNTS” in Jersey City and Hudson County.

With the new addition to the Hawks Nest, our young ladies, it probably won’t be long until they are standing among the rank and file of both the Police and Fire departments.  I am sure that the dinner at, “Engine 9” will still be a grand affair only, “maybe”, with better looking placemats on the table.

When we talk “Success”, we have to say, “Hey How about our Hawk-Girls Volleyball Team!” After setting on their winning ways by winning the Varsity game vs. Hoboken, on the opening day of school, our Varsity Girls made it all the way to the State Finals in their premier year. This is a grand and glorious triumph for all of the young ladies, their coach Mr. Fernando Colon and his staff. Their practices in the gym were as well attended as their games by our young men, their brother Hawks. The girls Great Hawk Pride and Spirit were beaming every time I was in attendance. Next year will be even better. I wonder if the Police and Firemen have a Volley Ball Team? We will in the not too distant future be able to supply them players if they do.

The successful inventor, Thomas Edison was quoted as having said, “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration” and this is proven everyday by the success of our young men and women, in the classrooms and in the gym of; “The Miracle on McGinley” school.
