Greetings fellow Hawks, friends and family. First of all, to the former president, Larry Basinski, thank you. Larry's hard work and dedication to Hudson Catholic is awe-inspiring and as we know, a rarity in today's day and age. He is a pillar of strength and character, and an incredible asset to our community. I am very happy to have the opportunity to report to you as the new president of the Hudson Catholic Alumni Association.
_____ _____ Larry's Last Lines. As we have just moved along into a new administration here in our Alumni Association, I would like to take the chance to briefly share my thoughts with all of you, my brother Hawks. We have in the last 18 months written an amazing chapter in the history of our Alma Mater and its relationship with our Alumni Association. We, by our collective determination and resolve, not only saved the school but set it on a new and exciting path. Many of you who have come to join us in the daily, weekly, and monthly execution of the plan, hatched on that incredible evening way, way back on April 23, 2008, in the Cafeteria, know full well the measure and value of our De La Salle spirit. This belief in ourselves, our Hawk family, our Brothers, and our lay teachers is what enabled us to succeed. Construction is going on late into the evenings, preparing the physical facility for the new and exciting chapter in Hudson Catholic’s history. In the gym, teams are practicing for the upcoming seasons. Not only will you find basketball and football players using the gym and facilities to prepare for the new season; now there are volleyball players and cheerleaders readying themselves for the first ever girls’ season of sports at Hudson Catholic. _____ REUNIONS We are very pleased to announce that a lot of work
________ Hudson Catholic is more than a school. It is a family. That is something we have heard often, and it is something we saw proven true this past year in ways we probably couldn’t have imagined before April 2008. The Hudson Catholic family wishes John Weller, ’77, brother of Mark, ’79, a happy 50th birthday on Thursday, August 27, 2009. John is now is now residing at Hudson Manor Health Care Center, a long-term care facility, in Secaucus. If anyone would like to send birthday wishes or simply drop a note and say hello, you can mail them to: Hudson Manor Health Care Center |
Dear Faculty and Friends, As I write this the renovations to retro-fit the building to accomodate young ladies is quickly winding down. The faculty have been stopping by to ready their classrooms, and all beginning of school preparations are in full swing. ______ Remembering a Hero; The Hudson Catholic family suffered a great loss, when a brave and true son, Officer Marc Anthony DiNardo, was killed in the line of duty. We join with his family, his friends, his fellow officers, and the entire Jersey City family in the sorrow and grief of such a tragedy.
______ On the night of June 5, 2009, Jersey City Fire Captain John O’Keefe, ’81, and members of Squad Company 4 responded to a house fire (see the photo in the middle column). One of the fleeing residents told the Captain that a handicapped man was trapped on the second floor. O’Keefe and his men found Robert Pettiford on the second floor, and the Captain hoisted him onto his back and carried him from the burning building, saving him from any injury. ______ The Executive Board of the We extend a special thank you to Barclays and the PGA Tour for bringing this first class event to Jersey City. _________
