Comings and Goings Hudson Catholic is more than a school. It is a family. This is something we have heard often, and it is something we saw proven true this past year in ways we probably couldn’t have imagined before April 2008. Thanks to everyone who has been submitting to “Comings and Goings.” We encourage alumni to submit announcements about the goings-on in our Hawk Family members’ lives. This month we shine the spotlight on some fine Hawk men (and a fine Hawk's child). Christian McCarthy, son of Jill and Rod McCarthy,’68, won the 2009 Regional Spelling Bee in Florida (beating the 29 top spellers from across the state) and will compete in the National Bee in Washington, D.C. this year. The winning word was “frigorific.” Bonus points to any alumnus who is able to give us the definition or use the word in a sentence. (No cheating, guys!) We join Christian’s proud parents in congratulating him on this amazing accomplishment. We look forward to seeing him at the National Bee. Recently, Father Warren Hall, ’81, had the opportunity to have lunch with Dr. Louis Stabile, ’84, while traveling to California for an educational conference. We are glad to see the West Coast treating an East Coast boy so well. And we thank him for his hospitality to our president/principal. Sean Connors, ’87, was recently elected to the Jersey City Board of Education. Congratulations, Sean, and good luck as you begin your service on the Board! Michael Rodrick, ’88, recently appeared on Fox News's "Hannity," as a member of the Great American Panel. He also has been appearing on Fox’s “24.” We wish him continued success and hope to see him at the Nest for a visit when his travels bring him back to Jersey City. Kevin Mongiello, ’05, is graduating Montclair University this month. He will be earning a degree as a Recreation Professional with a concentration in Leisure and Tourism. Currently, he is interning as a Sales Coordinator with the P.G.A. and is promoting the Barclays Tournament at Liberty National in Jersey City. Don Chelel, his boss at the P.G.A., had this to say about Kevin: "As a Sales Coordinator, a lot has been asked of Kevin, and he has shown a great ability to multi-task and take everything in stride. The role itself requires great attention to detail, and his educational background has clearly prepared him for this fast-paced environment. Overall, he has been a great addition to The Barclays team, and, from what I hear, he is a pretty good golfer, too!" Andrew Anglin, ’06, is a Junior at Furman University and host of his own radio program, Soda Fountain with the Double A, which features rock ‘n’ roll from the 50s and 60s. It airs on Tuesdays from 5:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m during the school year. For further information, visit http://wpls.furman.edu/. Garrett Askew, '06, is attending University of Albany, where he is playing football and running track. Between the two sports, he has five championship rings so far, and he's only a Junior. Recently, his Track team was invited to Jamaica to participate in the Being a family, we want to remember those family members who have gone on before us. We encourage anyone who would like to write a remembrance about a fellow Hawk or faculty member to submit it to bslattery@hudsoncatholic.org. We want to remember and celebrate the lives of those who journeyed with us during our time at Hudson Catholic. This month we pray for the repose of the soul of Joseph Carroll, ’68, who passed away on April 28, 2009. We also ask you to keep Joseph's wife Maria, their two daughters Yvonne Kruse and Maria Carroll, and the entire Carroll family in your thoughts and prayers. |
