Alumni President Letter - February 2009

My, how the time flies when you’re having fun and—Oh, yeah!—saving your high school.

I can’t believe that it is almost over for this current Executive Board. We have been in office three and a half years, and this past one has been a whirlwind experience. John Lennon gave us some great lines in one of the last songs he wrote, “Beautiful Boy.” I have very often in the past 10 months heard these lines from the song drifting in my mind.

“Before you go to sleep
Say a little prayer
Every day in every way
It's getting better and better...
Before you cross the street
Take my hand
Life is what happens to you
While you're busy making other plans”

This past year has been a great lesson in life and survival for us all, while we were busy making other plans.

I am telling you all of this because I would love to share the fun and the “plans” for the future of our Alumni Association with you. We, the Executive Board of your alumni association, are looking for a few good “young” brother Hawks to join us. We are seeking nominations for the four officers’ positions. If you would like to give up all of your spare time and last drop of available energy to Hudson Catholic Rising, then “COME ON DOWN,” or just drop me a line at alumni@hudsoncatholic.org.

Put “I AM READY TO SERVE” in the subject line.

I am calling on my brother Hawks especially from the decades of the 1980s and 1990s to take a run at the prize. You have youth and energy and are ready to step in and take over the reins of this fast moving old warhorse of an association. Or to put it another way, the old dogs need a rest.

Let’s not forget what Bob Dylan said:

“Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside
And it is ragin’.
It’ll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’.”

I believe in all of you guys from these two decades. I have met so many of you who have so many good, new, and fresh ideas both for the school and the association, that I welcome you to join us in the adventure of Hudson Catholic Rising.

Change is coming to 790 Bergen Avenue.

Come on Up for the Rising!

I welcome you all to our next association meeting on Monday, February 9, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the Library.

Currently, we have much going on. In particular there is the upcoming dinner dance honoring our own Brother Pat King, a.k.a. Jersey City's St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal.

This coming Saturday, February 7, 2009, will be a great and grand night for us all to raise a glass and toast this wonderful Brother’s commitment and dedication to all of us and our school.

A great many ‘thank you’s’ he will hear this night. Tickets are still available. Call the school at 201-332-5970 and reserve your spot in the gym with our “Grand” Marshal of a Christian Brother.

In short order, you will also be hearing from us about our Hall of Fame announcements and our spring Golf Outing.

The Golf Outing this year, as last year, will be at Knob Hill Golf Club on June 8th. SO SAVE THE DATE!

Keep in touch and up-to-date by checking in at the schools web site: www.HudsonCatholic.org. Click on the Alumni (Upcoming Events) button to see what’s going on. Here’s hoping to see you on Saturday the 7th and Monday the 9th.

Adios,
Larry
